FAQ'S
Frequently Asked Questions
At Riverwood Designs, we believe your wedding is more than a date on the calendar — it’s the start of your forever story. Every detail matters, from the blooms in your bouquet to the timeline that keeps your day flowing seamlessly. Here are some of the questions our couples ask most often as they dream, plan, and prepare for the celebration of a lifetime.
Our Services
Do you offer both wedding planning and floral design?
Yes! We are both planners and floral designer. Some couples invite us to design their florals, others bring us in to plan their day, and many choose both. This way, the details and the design work in harmony — every petal, every place card, every moment.
Where do you work?
Riverwood Designs travels throughout Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland, and our main markets are the metro Richmond and Charlottesville areas. Whether you’re celebrating under a grand ballroom chandelier, in a family garden, or across the ocean, we are honored to travel wherever your “I do” takes us.
When should we book?
The earlier, the better — most of our couples book 9–12 months ahead, especially for popular dates (May and October are most popular in Virginia). But if your heart is set on Riverwood Designs, reach out — we’ll always do our best to make it happen.
What is your planning process like?
We begin with a heartfelt conversation about your vision, your priorities, and what matters most to you. From there, we create a personalized design and planning roadmap. Along the way, we’ll refine, coordinate, and lovingly curate every detail so that when your day arrives, you can simply be present and soak in the joy.
Florals & DesignHow would you describe your floral style?
Our designs are romantic and garden-inspired — flowers that feel alive, like they’ve been gathered from a secret meadow or our grandmothers garden. We love mixing textures, colors, and shapes to tell your love story in blooms.
Will you design around my colors and style?
Absolutely. Whether your dream is soft blush and ivory, bold jewel tones, or a mix of wild greenery and neutrals, we’ll weave your palette into arrangements that are uniquely yours.
Do you use seasonal flowers?
Yes — most flowers are available year-round whereas certain varieties of greenery and eucalyptus have an off-crop season. If you’ve fallen in love with something out of season, we’ll do our best to source it or suggest beautiful alternatives.
Do you offer décor rentals?
We do! From candlelight to vases to ceremony structures, we have a curated collection of pieces to complete the look. These details are woven seamlessly into your floral design for a cohesive, enchanting atmosphere.
What happens to the flowers after the wedding?
Many couples choose to share their flowers with family and friends at the end of the night. We can take them at the end of the night and share them with people in convalescent centers or homebound people. Whatever you choose, your blooms will continue their story beyond your celebration.
Investment & Policies
How much should I plan to spend on florals?
Every wedding is different, but most of our couples set aside 10-20% of their overall budget for flowers. We will try to maximize use of all the floral designs; from repurposing your bridesmaid bouquets as a centerpiece in a beautiful vessel/bowl to utilizing your ceremony designs where they can be admired by everyone the rest of the day. Your proposal will be tailored to your priorities, so your investment reflects your dream.
How do I reserve my date?
A signed contract and retainer secure your date on our calendar. For floral designs, the balance is due one month before your wedding day and for planning/coordinating services, the balance is due two months before your wedding day.
What if my date changes or my plans shift?
Life happens. While retainers are non-refundable, we will always do our best to accommodate a new date, depending on availability. Your peace of mind matters to us.
Day-Of DetailsHow many weddings do you take at once?
Your love story is one of a kind — and your wedding deserves our full attention. For that reason, we limit the number of weddings we accept so we can pour our hearts into yours.
Who handles setup and cleanup?
We do. Our team carefully delivers, sets up, and later breaks down everything so that you, your family, and your friends are free to celebrate fully.
Do you carry insurance?
Yes. We maintain professional liability insurance, and we’re happy to provide documentation if your venue requests it.
